When Flatbed & Wheel Lift or Tow Dolly Towing is Best Used in Wellington, FL; Traffic Collisions, All Wheel Drive Vehicles & More

There are many ways to move broken down vehicles these days. The top two methods are flatbed towing and wheel lift or tow dolly towing. Where there is a choice, there are questions and the one question asked most often is which one is better for towing my vehicle. Well there isn’t one that is better than the other. However it may depend on the vehicle and the scenario as to which one may be used over the other. Affordable Junk Cars & Towing uses both methods of towing and will share how each is done and why so we can better help our customers understand the difference of the two major types of towing options.

Flatbed Towing

Flatbed towing uses a flatbed auto hauler. This is a heavy duty truck where the bed or platform can be moved to easily access another vehicle. This platform can be moved partially off of the truck to ground level where the vehicle is. It is attached and then raised back up onto the back, or bed of the towing truck. The vehicle is then strapped down to prevent loss of the vehicle and secure it in places throughout its journey. One benefit of the flatbed towing method is by keeping all four wheels in place. This is better on your vehicle’s transmission. Flatbed towing is often used during traffic collisions or accidents where it may be impossible to use the wheel lift option. Of course flatbeds are more ideal for all wheel drive vehicles and again to benefit of the transmission as well as heavier vehicles such as larger trucks. However even smaller luxury cars can be safely strapped down and transported as well.

Wheel Lift Towing

Wheel lift towing is considered more “old school” but it is still widely used because it works well. Wheel lift towing uses tow chains that are secured around the front end of the vehicle and lift the front two wheels off of the ground. However, in this day and age, tow trucks use a hydraulic dolly to lift and secure the vehicle as well as the chains. It then pulls the rear of the vehicle to its destination. However, depending on the vehicle transmission’s location and if it has been damaged, the vehicle can be towed from either the front or rear of the vehicle. For the much larger vehicle, it is better to use the flatbed towing option. Even so, wheel lift towing still can handle most vehicles as is still a common way to transport a vehicle from place to place. Again wheel lift is as equally useful as flatbed towing.
