Nail, Screw or Staple Puncture Hole Near or in Sidewall of Tire

It is not unheard of for fallen debris to wind up on roads, parking lots, even your driveway or garage floor. If you roll over the top of any of these objects at just the right angle; that debris could cause a puncture in your tire. More often than not the offending debris that causes puncture holes are nails, industrial staples, and screws. Though glass is not durable enough to puncture a hole in the tire it can still inflict enough damage the tread and compromise the structural integrity of the tire. Leaks, depending on how big the hole can be from low, to moderate, to rapid; if the nail or other object gets dislodged from your tire. A leak becomes obvious if you put air in your tire and it loses the PSI quickly afterward. If you are near a mechanic, you can probably get your car there in time before additional damage to the tire occurs if the leak is slow, if you need assistance changing the tire to a spare or need a tow, Affordable Towing and Junk Cars can assist you.

Tire Sidewall Damage from Curbs

Another common cause to flat tires is due to sidewall damage. When the sidewall of the tire becomes damaged, the tire is irreparable and requires a replacement. When the sidewall becomes damaged, it separates the layers on the sides of the tire that allow for flexibility and movement. Typically, the curb is to blame for the tire to be inflicted with sidewall damage. By taking a turn too fast you scrape the tire on the curb and the friction causes damage to the sidewall. Your tire can be get blown out if the damage occurs quickly and with enough force.

Additional Causes of Flat Tires

There are other problems that can make a tire go flat. Poor installation, old and “balding” tires, or the spout is not properly sealed. Before getting into your car, it doesn’t hurt to take a few seconds to inspect the appearance of your tires, and if you have a tire air gauge handy, ensuring the pressure is adequate can help avoid being in traffic before you realize the tire is leaking air.

Being in a car accident can be very scary and can happen so fast, having us confused as to what to do next. Safety is always first! If you are able to move the car away from any oncoming traffic, do so. Then you’ll need to make sure that you and your passengers are okay and leave the vehicle if you can. This will keep you safe from other cars passing by in the event your vehicle should get hit again. For this reason, you should move away from the vehicle. Turn the hazard lights on and use safety cones, warning triangles or flares for safety if you happen to have them.

Call the Police & for Medical Help if Needed

After everyone is safe, you will need to call the police as well as for medical assistance, if needed. When the police get there, you’ll need to explain your side of the story without taking any blame. The police will hear both sides of the story. Make sure you cooperate, but let the police do their job.

Document Damage to Vehicle & Other Details of Auto Accident

Do all you can to document everything about the accident. With smartphones, it’s easy to take as many pictures as you can and write everything down. Your memory will start to go quickly and you may forget little details. You will get a report from the police when they’re done doing their part. Keep this report in a safe place for liability reasons.

Car Accident Witness Statement

If you’re lucky enough to have witnesses to the accident, make sure you get all their contact information. As mentioned, you will start to get forgetful and it helps to have other people that can explain what happened. If there aren’t cameras around, witnesses may be all you have in explaining exactly what happened and who is liable.

Car Accident Insurance Information & Claim

You should always have insurance information with you or in your car. You will also need to get this information for the other parties involved. Do you best to stay calm and get a hold of your insurance company as soon as possible to file and start the claim process.

Helpful Tips After a Minor Car Collision

Do not sign any documents unless they are for the insurance company or the police. Take all the notes you can. If the name of the driver is different than that of the name on the registration write it down. Even if you think the accident is your fault, don’t take any blame. Don’t talk about the accident with anyone other than the police or your own insurance company. It’s always a good idea to stay at the scene of the accident until the police are finished up and the other drivers have left.

When Flatbed & Wheel Lift or Tow Dolly Towing is Best Used in Wellington, FL; Traffic Collisions, All Wheel Drive Vehicles & More

There are many ways to move broken down vehicles these days. The top two methods are flatbed towing and wheel lift or tow dolly towing. Where there is a choice, there are questions and the one question asked most often is which one is better for towing my vehicle. Well there isn’t one that is better than the other. However it may depend on the vehicle and the scenario as to which one may be used over the other. Affordable Junk Cars & Towing uses both methods of towing and will share how each is done and why so we can better help our customers understand the difference of the two major types of towing options.

Flatbed Towing

Flatbed towing uses a flatbed auto hauler. This is a heavy duty truck where the bed or platform can be moved to easily access another vehicle. This platform can be moved partially off of the truck to ground level where the vehicle is. It is attached and then raised back up onto the back, or bed of the towing truck. The vehicle is then strapped down to prevent loss of the vehicle and secure it in places throughout its journey. One benefit of the flatbed towing method is by keeping all four wheels in place. This is better on your vehicle’s transmission. Flatbed towing is often used during traffic collisions or accidents where it may be impossible to use the wheel lift option. Of course flatbeds are more ideal for all wheel drive vehicles and again to benefit of the transmission as well as heavier vehicles such as larger trucks. However even smaller luxury cars can be safely strapped down and transported as well.

Wheel Lift Towing

Wheel lift towing is considered more “old school” but it is still widely used because it works well. Wheel lift towing uses tow chains that are secured around the front end of the vehicle and lift the front two wheels off of the ground. However, in this day and age, tow trucks use a hydraulic dolly to lift and secure the vehicle as well as the chains. It then pulls the rear of the vehicle to its destination. However, depending on the vehicle transmission’s location and if it has been damaged, the vehicle can be towed from either the front or rear of the vehicle. For the much larger vehicle, it is better to use the flatbed towing option. Even so, wheel lift towing still can handle most vehicles as is still a common way to transport a vehicle from place to place. Again wheel lift is as equally useful as flatbed towing.

The scenarios as to why a vehicle needs to be towed are what counts in the end. If you need the vehicle taken to your home, a mechanic or to a junkyard the vehicle will still need to be moved. When you call your towing company, just be sure to explain the location and the current condition the vehicle in question is in. With that knowledge the towing company will let you know the best course of action that should be used to relocate your vehicle.
